John F. Kennedy : Inaugural Address

 

 

 

In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink freom this responsibility. I welcome it.

 

I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. 

The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will ligth our country and all who werve it. and the glow from that fire can truly light the world. 

 

 

 

 

 

And so, my fellow Americans. Ask not what your country can do for you.  ask what you can do for your country.

 

My fellow citizens of the world. Ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

 

Finally, whether you are citizens of America or of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice that we shall ask of you.

 

 

 

 

 

긴 세계 역사에 있어 단지 몇 세대만이 매우 위험한 시각에 자유를 수호할 역할을 부여받아 왔습니다.  나는 이 책임을 회피하지 않습니다. 아니, 오히려 그것을 환영합니다. 나는 우리들 가운데 어떤분도 다른 나라 사람과 혹은 다른 세대와 자리를 바꾸고 싶어 하리라고 생각하지 않습니다. 이 노력을 위해 우리가 쏟는 에너지, 신념, 헌신은 우리나라와 우리 나라에 봉사하는 모든 사람의 앞길을 밝힐 것입니다. 그리고 그 불빛은 참으로 온 세계를 밝힐 수 있습니다.

 

그러므로 동포 여러분. 조국이 여러분을 위해 무엇을 할 것인가를 묻지 말고, 조국을 위해 여러분이 무엇을 할 수 있을 것인가를 물으십시오. 

 

 

 

 

 

세계의 시민 여러분. 미국이 여러분을 위해 무엇을 해 줄 것인가를 묻지 말고, 우리들이 서로 힘을 합해 인간의 자유를 위해 무엇을 할 수 있는가를 물으십시오.

 

마지막으로 여러분이 미국 시민이든 세계의 시민으든 우리들이 여러분에게 부탁하는 똑같은 정도의 높은 희생과 힘을 우리에게 부탁하십시오.
